GTA 6 Launch Day Checklist — Don't Waste Your First 24 Hours

4 min read·

The First 24 Hours Set the Tone

Millions of players will log into GTA 6 Online on the same day. Most of them will waste the first few hours driving around Vice City, crashing stolen cars into palm trees, and taking selfies on the beach.

That's fine if you're here for sightseeing. But if you want an economic advantage that lasts the entire lifecycle of the game, your first 24 hours matter.

Before Launch

Download and Install Early

GTA 6 will be a massive download. Pre-load it the moment it's available — don't be stuck waiting on a 100GB+ download while everyone else is already playing.

Clear Your Schedule

This isn't a casual Tuesday evening game. If you're serious about getting ahead, block out launch day. The first players in have first pick of properties, businesses, and items before prices inflate.

Set Up Two-Factor Authentication

Do this on your Rockstar Social Club account now. Account theft spikes around major game launches. Losing your account on day one means losing everything.

First Hour: Story Mode

Don't skip the intro. GTA 6's single-player opening teaches you the mechanics you'll need in Online. It also reportedly unlocks a cash bonus for GTA 6 Online completion — play at least through the first chapter.

Going Online: The Priority List

Once you're in GTA 6 Online, here's your order of operations:

1. Claim Your Pre-Order Bonuses

Open your in-game phone, go to the rewards section, and claim everything. Your starter cash, exclusive vehicle, outfits — redeem all of it immediately. These bonuses sometimes have claim windows.

2. Buy Your First Property

Don't overthink this. You need a spawn point and a garage. Buy the cheapest functional apartment or garage you can find. You'll upgrade later — right now you need a base of operations.

3. Do the Tutorial Missions

GTA 6 Online will have introductory missions. Do them. They pay well for early-game, teach you the systems, and often unlock features that are gated behind completion.

4. Buy a Warehouse

As soon as you have enough cash from tutorial missions plus your starter bonus, buy a small warehouse. This lets you start stockpiling items while prices are low.

5. Start Grinding

The best early-game money comes from:

  • Contact missions — reliable payouts, low risk
  • Races — fast if you're a decent driver
  • Freemode events — random cash for minimal effort
  • Heist setups — if you can find a crew quickly

6. Don't Buy a Supercar

This is the biggest mistake new players make. That $1M supercar is a depreciating asset. Invest in income-generating businesses first. The supercar will still be there in a week — but the business opportunity won't.

What to Skip on Day One

  • PvP — you'll get destroyed by players who skipped everything else to gear up for combat. Avoid free-roam fights until you have proper weapons and armor
  • Expensive cosmetics — nobody cares about your outfit on day one. Save your cash
  • Gambling — the casino will drain your starter funds. Come back when you have disposable income from businesses
  • Exploring the full map — tempting, but it doesn't earn you anything. Explore on day two

Day One Trading

The GTA 6 Online market will be wild on day one. If you find any rare items, rare vehicles, or limited spawns — hold them. Don't sell anything rare in the first 24 hours. Prices will be at their lowest because nobody understands value yet.

By day three or four, when the economy starts taking shape, those early finds will be worth multiples of their day-one value.

When you're ready to sell, GTA Market will be live with escrow protection, verified buyers, and real price discovery. Don't sell your rare finds in some random Discord DM — use a platform that protects your trade.

The 24-Hour Summary

HourAction
0–1Story mode intro, claim bonuses
1–3First property, tutorial missions
3–6Buy warehouse, start grinding
6–12Grind missions, stockpile items
12–24First business purchase, hold rare finds

Players who follow this checklist will be in the top 10% of the economy by the end of week one. The rest will still be buying supercars they can't afford.
